Description
Century plants (Agave Americana) are visually stunning succulents that can grow up to ten feet wide and six feet tall with fleshy, arching leaves in grey-green or variegated colors tipped with sharp spines that ward off intruding pets or people. They are drought-tolerant and low-maintenance plants that require low light, dry soil conditions such as Sandy, Sandy Loam, Medium Loam, Clay Loam or Rocky Soil.
The century plant, Agave Americana, is monocarpic, meaning it will bloom once in its lifetime. That bloom may not appear for 10, 20 or more years, depending on the climate. Many species in the genus Agave flower just once, although there are a few that are repeat bloomers. The name โcentury plantโ comes from the fact that the slow-growing plant takes years โ although not 100 โ to flower.
