Description
Courthouse Butte is a prominent and beautiful formation in Sedona, Arizona. It was first climbed by Harvey Butchart in 1954. The easiest route ascends the east end in a bowl on the south side, with most of the climb being 3rd and 4th class. One section about 2/3 of the way up is a 30 foot section of 5.6 climbing requiring ropes. The rocks are easily accessed from the adjacent Highway 179, are viewed by several short, level trails, and are the first-reached scenic location for the majority of visitors, who arrive from I-17 to the south.
